Scientific Imaging provides equipment and expertise to assist investigators in applying sophisticated microscopy techniques (including fluorescence, deconvolution, confocal, two-photon, 3-D and time-lapse microscopy), and digital image acquisition. Staff will provide instrument training, as well as advice about sample preparation and experimental design. We strongly recommend that all our users get trained in instrument operation; we will however also provide assistance when needed or preferred. For a general introduction to microscopy techniques, see our Microscopy Tutorial (PDF, 146KB).
How to obtain services
Instrument time, and/or staff assistance, can be booked on the Shared Resources on-line Instrument Scheduler, or by contacting resource staff at x4205. If circumstances change, users are requested to cancel and/or modify their appointments as needed, and as soon as practically possible.
The following microscopes are available for use in Scientific Imaging. Further information on the unique features, specs and use of each instrument are available on the equipment web page.
Images resulting from microscopy can be saved in your fred account, on the server maintained by the Research Computing Support. If you do not currently have an account on the Research Computing server please fill out the User Account Application.
Instructions on mapping a drive to your fred user account can be found at the Research Computing web site.
