Program in Infectious Diseases

Program in Infectious Diseases

The Program in Infectious Diseases is a program within Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's (FHCRC) Clinical Research Division. This Division supports a number of programs that specialize in major independent areas of research.

The goal and mission of the Program in Infectious Diseases is:

"To effectively detect, prevent, and treat the infectious disease complications of the immunocompromised host"

Infectious diseases remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the immunocompromised host, and ID researchers strive to understand the nature of these diseases.  The researchers who work in the Program in ID have a strong commitment to excellence in investigative research.

Dr. Lawrence Corey serves as the head of the Program, and oversees the Program's growing ranks of faculty and staff. The People section introduces the faculty members and scientific staff, and provides information about their research projects, recent publications, and involvement in the medical community.

Virology Division Affiliation

The Program in ID has an important affiliation with the University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine's Virology Division. The Program in Infectious Diseases at the FHCRC and the Virology Division of the UW were merged administratively in 1996, enriching the research opportunities for faculty and trainees.   The combined program offers a wide variety of opportunities in clinical and laboratory investigation.
